PE and Sport
Sport is an important part of the life of the school, and is important to our children and families. In a recent parent questionnaire, 41% of parents who responded said their children attend three of more sporting activities each week outside school. We have high standards and expectations for the sporting provision at school, as do our parents and families. It is important that our curricular and extra-curricular provision meet these expectations and enable as many children as possible to flourish physically and where possible, to represent the school in competition.
PE and sport premium
The 'PE and sport premium' grant from the DfE was in operation from 2013 - 2026, and was intended to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, so that primary school age pupils develop healthy lifestyles.
How did the PE and sport premium make a difference to the PE and sport participation and attainment of pupils?
During the academic year 2025-2026 the school received £19,720.
The PE and sport premium enabled us to work with a number of sports professionals during the year. The amount spent on this was £13,537. With a curriculum that includes a wide range of activities, all supported by a progression of skills and differentiation, our children's fitness, level of skill and enjoyment continued to increase as they were taught and coached by a range of talented sports people, including our lead coach, Mrs Lucy Godfrey.
Our swimming provision extends beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. We used the PE and Sports Grant enabled us to employ an experienced and qualified swim coach/ lifeguard. All children from EYFS through to Year 6 benefited from 7 weeks of swimming lessons in our pool. Non-swimmers in KS2 also received additional small group lessons in order to build skills and confidence.
All sports coaches work alongside our experienced teaching staff, ensuring that the knowledge and skills of our staff team are continually improved as part of ongoing professional development. In 2025-2026 this cost £3,513. Other CPD funded during the year included qualifications required for swimming and forest school. The total cost for all of these areas was £4,383.
Extra-curricular sport and competitive sport have been busy and successful. The PE and sport premium funded football, cross country and netball extra-curricular training for approximately 100 children in KS2, enabling consistent and high-quality competitors who were able to compete in inter-school competitions in all three sports. In the most recent survey, 55% of KS2 pupils represented the school in extra-curricular sporting events. This includes over 50% of KS2 pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium. The PE and sport premium enabled staff to accompany pupils to competition and paid entry and membership fees as required. In 2025-2026 this amounted to £1,800.
The PE and sport premium funded resources for our Forest School provision, and the cost of a valuable planning resource used throughout the school. These will both have an ongoing impact on pupils and provision.
